Since crew is a Virginia High School League (VHSL) club sport, no support is received from FCPS or McLean High School. Our McLean Crew Club (MCC) is a volunteer run organization, that cannot exist without volunteers. Family involvement in fundraising activities and operational tasks, as well as practice and regatta support, is required so that our students can row. The Virginia Schools Rowing Association (VASRA) is an association of high school Booster organizations that provides the venues, organization, resources and oversight for scholastic competitive rowing regattas. MCC is required to actively participate in VASRA and by extension our parents have VASRA requirements at each Regatta in the spring.

Volunteer credits

The system of Volunteer Credits was implemented to promote an environment where each family is contributing to volunteer needs of MCC and VASRA. Board Member, Debbie Blacksten (Member at Large – Volunteers) will be tracking volunteer credits earned through the year. Access to the current number of credits earned per family can be accessed by clicking the button below.

The number of volunteer credits you are expected to earn depends on the Payment Option you selected during registration.

** In order to promote equity across the MCC community, members will be charged $450 for every unfilled volunteer credit. **

As you know, the 2021 season is looking quite different.

We still need volunteers to not only ensure things run smoothly this year but to ensure there is continuity for next year.

We hope if you take an "in training" position in 2021 that you will take on that position as the lead in the 2022 season.  We want to make sure we don't lose the knowledge built up by previous volunteers.

The spreadsheet lists the various volunteer needs we have for this season.  Please take a look so when the Sign Up Genius goes live, you'll know what jobs you are interested in.  If a job is being filled by someone from last year, their name is noted.

If you notice any errors please contact Debbie Blacksten.  Thanks for your support!

This critical fundraiser, that contributes approximately 30% to MCC’s revenue, requires all of the MCC community to participate on a weekend typically in March. Families with more than one child registered with the club will only be required to fulfill one Mulch Madness parent volunteer shift.

If you know of an unavoidable conflict with Mulch Madness weekend email ASAP to receive alternative volunteer shifts to support Mulch Madness through the many pre- and post-event activities. * A charge of $1000 will be assessed for any family not volunteering for at least one Mulch Madness parent volunteer shift unless other arrangements have been made in advance*

If interested in operational roles, have interests and talents to offer MCC not included herin, or have questions about volunteering, contact Debbie Blacksten, Member At-Large:
