2019 W-L Crew Triathlon

 

You are invited to attend the 16th annual W-L Crew Triathlon, to be held on January 12, 2019, starting at 9 am sharp, and meeting in the Washington & Lee High School cafeteria. 

Registration due January 10 at 5pm. All athletes must print and complete the Waiver and must present it at the event - no exceptions. If you have no waiver you may not participate.

The event consists of:
  • a 4k erg, followed immediately by a

  • 2 mile run with a full set of stadium stairs

  • Following the erg and run, participants complete as many bench rows (prone row with barbell; arms must extend straight at bottom of the rep and the bar must evenly touch the underside of the bench at the top for the rep to count) as they are able in 2 minutes time. Men use 65lbs of weight, and women 45lbs. Each completed bench row takes 3 seconds off an athlete’s cumulative erg/run time for a final time.

  • Final times will be weight adjusted, by gender, to equalize all participants.

 

Athletes are divided by gender and by experience (experienced HS, novice HS, adult exp/nov combined) into flights run in this order:  experienced HS men, experienced HS women, novice HS men, novice HS women, adult men, adult women. Experienced and adult athletes in each category are seeded based on their fastest 2k erg score during the previous year. Novices and those with no time are seeded at random. Seeding places you closer to the front of the room on the ergs closest to video screens (we use the C2 erg event software to showcase at least the top 10 seeded athletes during their race). The event is held rain or shine, but inclement weather can cancel the event (only three times since 2002- we will notify coaches and athletes as early as possible in the event it must be canceled). There are no make-up dates for the event, nor refunds.

 

Exact start or finish times for flights can not be provided, due to the fact that each flight will contain athletes of varying speeds on the erg. There is 10 minutes separating each flight. You may attempt to judge flight start times by looking at past results for a given group of kids, and adding 10 minutes, based on a 9 AM event start time.

 

Athletes are advised to bring food and drinks with them, as well as any clothes they may need for the weather on the day of the event. There are no concessions at the school on the day of the event.
