The 2023 SRAA Nationals will take place on May 26 and 27 at Melton Lake, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Two McLean Crew boats qualified at the May 13 Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships at the Occoquan States.

Rower Fee

The fee is $635 per rower/coxswain and covers transportation, lodging, regatta fees & expenses and most meals.

  

Rowers designated as alternates pay 50% but should pay in full now and then will receive a refund after the trip. 

 

The Regatta Fee is due by Thursday, May 25, 2023.

 Meals

Thursday May 25:

  • Bring a bag lunch and snacks for the bus ride

  • Catered Team dinner at tent burrito bar and salad

  • Friday May 26

  • Breakfast buffet at Hotel

  • Boxed Lunch and snacks at team food tent all day

  • Catered Team dinner at Hotel Veggie Pasta, chicken alfredo pasta, garlic bread and salad

  • Saturday May 27

  • Breakfast at hotel for 1v boat, 2v breakfast buffet

  • Catered Lunch- Empanadas, Puerto Rican rice and beans, and snacks at team food tent all day

  • Dinner TBD bring money for fast food court and movie

Spending Money

Team members should bring extra spending money for rest stops on the way to/from the regatta and also for Saturday night dinner (we plan to have the team eat at an open food court with many options) The team should also bring money if they plan to shop at the many vendors set up at SRAA Nationals.

Forms have been sent to parents for permission to drive the team:  FIELD TRIP DRIVER'S LICENSE AND VEHICLE INSURANCE INFORMATION

Spectator Lodging

The room block has already been released, but if you would like to secure a room at the same hotel please contact them directly.  

Luggage & Thursday dress

Rower's luggage will be loaded onto the bus Thursday morning. Rower will NOT have access to luggage until check-in at the hotel. Everyone

should board the bus dressed to row, with crew bag as needed. Bus will go directly to water for unloading, rigging and a practice row. 

 Team Dinner

We will have a team dinner (included in fees) Thursday and Friday night at the team tent on Thursday and at the hotel Friday. Chaperone, volunteers, parents are included in this dinner.

Transportation

We will provide transportation via vans driven by parents/chaperones to and from the regatta for rowers and coxswains. Per FCPS regulations, no rowers will be allowed to drive to or from the regatta in a car driven by anyone other than their own parents, another rower’s parents (with written permission from their own parents) or by a vehicle driven by a designated chaperone.

 

*Rowers are welcome to make the return trip to McLean with their parents ONLY after being released by their COACH (shell/gear loaded for return to McLean) AND checking out in person with their CHAPERONE.

Notifying the school about May 25 and 26 absences

Rowers should give all teachers advance notice regarding their absence from school for the Regatta. The roster will be provided to the attendance office. McLean High School Administration, guidance and teachers will review/approve (or disapprove) the rower absences in advance of our trip.

What to pack

Photo ID required, complete uniform - uni and tech shirt - required to row. Be prepared for all weather conditions, with layers for rainy or cold weather, appropriate footwear for rain and walking, sunscreen, headgear, sunglasses.
