The 2018 SSRA Nationals will take place on May 25 and 26 on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.  Boats must qualify at the May 5 and 12 Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships at the Occoquan in order to participate.

Rower Fee

Fee is $458 per rower/coxswain and covers bus transportation, lodging, regatta fees & expenses and meals.

  
Rowers designated as alternates pay 50% but should pay in full now and then will receive a refund after the trip


 The Regatta Fee is due by May 18.

Rower Lodging

The team will be staying at the Holiday Inn - Midtown Philadelphia at 1305 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA  19107
 
Hotel rooms for rowers/coxswains, coaches and chaperones have been arranged by the club and will be paid out of the regatta fee.

 Meals

Rowers should bring a bag lunch for the bus ride on Thursday, May 24.  All other meals will be provided by the club.  Breakfast on Friday and Saturday will be at the hotel.  Dinner on Thursday and lunches on Friday and Saturday and snacks will be provided at the team's food tent.  Bulk water will be available at the food tent.  Rowers and family members should bring their reusable water bottles.
 
Rowers should reserve money to purchase a fast food dinner during the trip home on May 26.

Spending Money

Team members should bring extra spending money if they plan to shop at the many vendors set up at SRAA Nationals. Also a few dollars for fast food dinner Saturday evening.

Required Forms

Click on FORMS button above for REQUIRED field trip form. This needs to be electronically signed by parent, and then will be routed to the student. PLEASE prompt your athlete to sign so completed by May 18

 

OPTIONAL: Students who regularly carry either an epi-pen or an inhaler are required to provide a copy of the appropriate approved form to carry medicine on this trip. Please scan your copy (or complete new) and email toregattachair@mcleancrew.org

OPTIONAL: SE-63 Medical Authorization Form - To be completed for any student needed to bring other prescribed or over-the-counter medicine. Required - bring printed medical form inside a gallon-sized plastic bag with the medicine:

  • Wednesday night at practice bus drop off 7:15pm at MHS, or  

  • Thursday morning 7:00am with luggage.

Spectator Lodging

A limited number of rooms at a discounted rate are available for parents attending but not chaperoning.  To make a reservation, call: (888)-752-5341 and use the code PAR by Wednesday May 15. Parking is $30 per night at the hotel.

Luggage & Thursday dress

Rower's luggage must be dropped in designated secure location (TBD) at school Thursday morning. Rower will NOT have access to luggage until check-in at the hotel (after rowing and dinner at food tent). Everyone

should board the bus dressed to row, with crew bag as needed. Bus will go directly to water for unloading, rigging and a practice row in Philadelphia. 

 Team Dinner

We will have a team dinner (included in fees) Friday night at Fox and Hound restaurant at 1501 Spruce Street, Philadelphia.  Chaperones and coaches will accompany rowers and coxswains for this event.  Additional parents are welcome to join for an additional charge of $30 per person.

Transportation

We will provide bus transportation to and from the regatta for rowers and coxswains. Per FCPS regulations, no rowers will be allowed to drive to or from the regatta in a car driven by anyone other than their own parents, another rower’s parents (with written permission from their own parents) or by a vehicle driven by a designated chaperone.

 

*Rowers are welcome to make the return trip to McLean with their parents ONLY after being released by their COACH (shell/gear loaded for return to McLean) AND checking out in person with their CHAPERONE.

Notifying the school about May 24 and 25 absences

Notifying the school about May 24 and 25 absences: Rowers should give all teachers advance notice regarding their absence from school for the  Regatta. The roster will be provided to the attendance office. McLean High School Administration, guidance and teachers will review/approve (or disapprove) the rower absences in advance of our trip.

What to pack

Photo ID required, complete uniform - uni and tech shirt - required to row. Be prepared for all weather conditions, with layers for rainy or cold weather, appropriate footwear for rain and walking, sunscreen, headgear, sunglass. You'll want a nicer outfit for Friday dinner.

Parking at Nationals

Street parking is available all along North Park Drive at no charge.  Private businesses may be offering pay to park on their lots which are not associated with the regatta.  The finish line is closer to East Cuthbert Blvd.

Thursday, May 24

7:00 am     Rowers drop off luggage at location (TBD) at MHS for storage and inspection.

11:00 am     Bus arrives MHS, front entrance, rowers load luggage

11:30 am     Bus departs MHS for Camden, New Jersey

3:00 pm     Arrive at Cooper River, Camden, New Jersey; rig and swing row

6:00 pm     Dinner at food tent

7:00 pm      Bus to hotel in Philadelphia for check- in

Friday, May 25

6:00 am     Breakfast buffet

6:30 am      Bus departs hotel for Camden        

8:00 am      Time trials for all events from 8:00 am until approximately 3:00 pm.

                      After a 30 minute break, some semi-final races will be held until 6:00 pm.

11:30 am      Lunch provided at food tent

6:00 pm      Depart Camden for hotel

7:00 pm       Team Dinner at Fox and Hound Restaurant, 1501 Spruce St, Philadelphia, PA

(15 min. walk from hotel)

8:00 pm       Return to hotel

Saturday, May 26

6:00 am     Breakfast and Check-out of hotel  (time subject to change)

6:30 am     Bus departs for Camden

8:00 am     Semi-finals continue

11:30 am     Lunch provided by food tent.

1:00 pm      Finals begin

 

TBD              Depart Camden after last boat has competed -- late afternoon/early evening.  One stop will be made for dinner (fast food).

 

Arrive at McLean High School 3.5 – 4 hours after departure

  • Follow I-495 N, I-95 N and I-295 N to US-130 N/Crescent Blvd in Gloucester City. Take exit 1D from I-76

  • Follow US-130 N/Crescent Blvd to N Park Dr in Cherry Hill
