The second regatta of the season for McLean was the Darrell Winslow Regatta, Saturday April 13 at Sandy Run Park on the Occoquan. With some rowers coming back from injury, McLean was able to enter 10 boats. In the first races of the day, the Mclean boys’ and girls’ first 8+’s advanced out of their heats to the finals finishing first and second in their heats respectively. The girls’ lightweight 4+ took 2nd in their race, moving up from the previous week. The girls’ junior 4+ finished 3rd in their final, staying even with their finish from the previous week. The boys’ lightweight 8+ turned in a very competitive time in finishing 3rd in the 2nd 8+ final and should be pleased with their race. The freshman boats worked hard with the girls finishing 6th in a very competitive final and the boys 3rd in their flight. The boys’ first 8+ finished in 4th in their final and the girls first 8+ moved to 5th in their final .The lightweight girls’ 8+ continued their winning ways for the second week. The boys’ novice 4+ continued to impress finishing 2nd again this week. The boys’ 3rd 8+, absent in last week’s racing, turned in a very competitive 2nd place finish. Walter Mess Regatta04/06/13 Sandy Run Park, Occoquan Reservoir Results are here. The spring regatta season officially got underway for the McLean High School Crew with the Walter Mess Regatta, Saturday April 6 at Sandy Run Park on the Occoquan. McLean had 9 entries including last year’s Virginia State Champion girls’ lightweight 8+, who took first by almost 30 seconds. The boys’ first 8+ just missed the cut in their heat, finishing less than 2 seconds behind the second place transfer. The girls’ first 8+ did make the transfer to the final after finishing second in their heat and improved their time dramatically in the final, finishing 6th in 5:13.6. The boys’ lightweight 8+, racing as a 2nd 8+ finished 3rd in their heat to transfer to the final, where they finished 5th against the heavyweight competition. The girls’ lightweight 4+ finished 5th of 7 in their final. The girls’ junior 4+ finished 3rd in a field of 6 and the boys’ novice 4+ finished in 2nd place in their final. Both of the freshman 8+’s, the boys and girls finished 4th in their races.

A very important tool we have for keeping everyone up to date on events and especially schedule changes is our email list. To the right of this column you'll see the link to sign up. It's a two-step process, after which you get 'approved' by the webmaster. This ensures we don't get spam and helps stop misuse. From that moment on you will receive all the updates by email, last-minute changes to schedules, and the latest news.
Rowers should sign up for either the male or the female email list, and parents should sign up for the parents email list. This is the primary method of communication for crew families so please get on the email list.
