Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships II
(States)
Saturday, May 22, Occoquan
What an eventful day it was! All of McLean's rowers gave it their all. Expectations were high and not all were met, but in all McLean can be proud of another wonderful weekend of racing. Congratualtions to the men's L4 with silver, and the women's L8 with gold. A mention to the women's V8 who stayed with the pack the entire race and gave the spectators a thrilling race to watch. They were mere seconds from the winner and just 0.6 seconds from 3rd place. Full results are posted on the Regattas page. Volunteering in the finish line booth I can tell you the entire booth held their breath and were in awe and were still talking about the Varsity women's race as we dispersed after the final race. There's a short write-up in the Sunday Post, sports section, about the regatta. _________________________________________________________

Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships (States)
Saturday May 8 ~ Occoquan
The regatta was well underway when the wind really picked up, and after some delay watching the weather it became clear the wind was not going to die down so the rest of the regatta had to be postponed. The remainder of the races will be held on Saturday May 22nd in place of the Classic Regatta which was originally planned for that day. The results of the races that were held are on the Vasra page, and of course there's a printable sheet on our own regatta page. Kent Arnold took pictures - Click here to see them. Many thanks, Kent! _________________________________________________________

Charlie Butt Regatta Saturday April 24 ~ Potomac
With 135 boats carrying 1067 rowers and coxwains this was a huge regatta buzzing with activity. The horrible rains did not seriously materialize and all the races went off as planned. McLean turned out very strong indeed, proving themselves quite the force to be reckoned with! The food tent was nearer the boathouse this year which proved an excellent spot. Many thanks to Janice and Allison for another stellar food supply and display! A printable results sheet can be found on the Regatta page. For the pictures taken by Ms. Rena Schild, click here! - password mcleancrew If you'd like to know more about the legendary Charlie Butt who established this regatta, to the newly established dedicated website via the button below. _________________________________________________________
5th Manny Flicks Regatta
Sunday April 18 ~ Philadelphia
The results are posted in the table on the Regattas page. The day started windy (but not as bad a the day before!) and chilly but it warmed up nicely as the day went on. The Women's V8, L8, the Men's V4 and L4 all had a great time and lots of success. _________________________________________________________
Crown of Wisconsin (Ave) Regatta
Saturday April 17 ~ Potomac
What a windy day it was! The day went on without major mishaps, and it was a great experience, especially for the newer rowers and coxwains! Results are in the table on the Regattas page. For some photos taken by Ms. Rena Schild, click here. For some photos taken by Kent Arnold, click here. _________________________________________________________
Darrell Winslow Regatta Saturday April 10 ~ Occoquan
What a riveting day it was! Much warmer than expected, but quite breezy the first half of the regatta, making it a challenging race for the rowers. The nerves of the novice and freshman rowers had calmed down after their first regatta last week. An American Bald Eagle circled overhead. For McLean the regatta was quite eventful! A huge crab making the rower practically loose his oar, a photo finish for 2nd place, and a suspected serious rudder malfunction made for quite a bit of drama in the stands. The whole team stuck together beautifully and all the rowers looked much improved from last week. The food tent kept rowers and coxwains perfectly hydrated and nourished, well done! The enormous effort that goes into this is much appreciated by all! The results can be found on the Vasra website, and click here for a printable excel sheet with McLean highlighted. Photos will follow shortly. _________________________________________________________
Walter Mess Regatta April 3, 2010
